Hello, Foxy Friends!

Many apologies for the delay, but the delay, let me tell you, was well worth it.  For, due to the cunning stylings of Chef Andy, the Foxes went on a (sorta) secret birthday trip to one of the most magical places on earth.  No, we did not go to Disney (as many of you already know, I have an irrational, but nonetheless deep-seated dislike of Disney World…we can psychologically mine this one later).  No, we did not go to Tiffany’s (I also have a distaste for blood diamonds, so that place ain’t my magical place).  We went to…   [wait for it]…..  THE FARM FRICKING SANCTUARY (Note: not its official name).  So, this will be our first installment of a posting series we like to call: FOXY TRAVEL BLOGGIN’ TIME (creative, I know.  Banjo thought it up! [Looks expectantly at shelter dog...no response...still sleeping].  Moving right along…

The Foxes Travel, though Banjo is not allowed to drive (anymore).

So, this trip was so unbelievably thoughtful (not only is my man a vegan grill master, he’s kind of the most thoughtful dude in the world), amazing, and life-affirming, that we gotta post it in installments.  For one, the animals were incredible, such fantastic individuals with awesome personalities, and I want to give them the attention they deserve.  Secondly, as if the Farm Sanctuary weren’t enough (believe me, it is), we also did other incredible stuff, like: Acting like honeymooners from a 1950′s sitcom at Niagara Falls, complete with a boat ride on the Maid of the Mist (promise we found out about your trip there after we booked this, Our Hen House :) ; Driving through the gorgeous Pocono Mountains and whilst blasting Heart (Ann Wilson, you are too good) in the wide open spaces and gorgeous scenery; Eating and drinking at some fricking amazing, vegan-friendly restaurants in the most unlikely of places; Hitting up New York City to see friends and take a bite out of the Big Apple’s bustling vegan scene (which is awesome); and, Practicing at the Jivamukti Yoga School in Union Square, the Mecca for yogis who are animal activists and vegans.  Needless to stay, there’s a lot to cram in to one post, so, like Usher, I’m gonna give it to you nice and slow (gross, sorry), or perhaps, like the NKOTB, I’m just gonna go Step by Step.  Lord, get me off this computer…all this animal rights and vegan goodness has got me actin’ a fool.

Let’s Start At The Very Beginning…

A very good place to start, right, Julie Andrews?  Do re mi….  We flew in to Buffalo, rented a car, and drove to Niagara Falls.  En route, we ate a lovely, super authentic little South Indian joint called “Dosa Palace.”  It was a gem of a place, an oasis of samosas and curries in a land defined by buffalo wings.  And they were very accommodating about making stuff without dairy, and all of it was vegetarian anyway, so that was awesome.  A nice, spicy, warm meal on an otherwise kind of dreary day (but we love rain, so we were happy campers).

Niagara Falls: Can I just say that this place is not only breathtakingly beautiful, but super relaxing and well-kept for a tourist destination.  It was clean, inviting, not super crowded, and we even scored some delish homemade lemon sorbet and coffee as we sat and watched the falls.  Then we put on our super glam slickers and boarded the Maid of the Mist.  What an adventure, and what a cool reminder of how powerful and majestic nature is.  I especially loved seeing all of the different birds zip in and out of the Falls like it ain’t no thang, and chill on the water, while the rest of us are wigging out over the Falls’ spray.  Goes to show that animals are just way freaking cooler than we are. ;)

Get ready to see animals (and baby animals) and VIDEOS (omg) next post.  Shit’s gonna get real around here.  For now, I will leave you with pics of us looking mighty fine (not so much) in our fierce slickers.

Until next time! (which will be in, like, three minutes…)

Andy of the Mist…Handsome, even in a slicker

Ashlee of the Mist
(Banjo did not come on this visit and has a natural aversion to rain slickers)
